Acknowledging The Disparity of Womanhood & Recognizing Females In Male Dominated Industries
We were taught to learn Martin Luther King Jr , Buzz Aldrin and Harry Houdini before being told about Fannie Lou Hamer , Sally Ride and Dorothy Dietrich? Who are these women, why is the women's movement and their achievements so important?
Women include Fannie Lou Farmer, a leader of both the Civil Rights Movement and women's right activist, one of several co- founders of National Women's Political Caucus notably known for her DNC 1964 speech.
Sally Ride, the first American woman in space and the third woman ever!!! Dorothy Dietrich, an escapist and a magician, the only woman to attempt and succeed in Jinxed Bullet Catch and successfully escaped from a straightjacket attached to a burning rope.
From my early years to teenage years, the terms "gender based violence " and "gender pay gap " never rung a bell. "We all work to get paid", that is at least what my mom says.
I'd never had to worry about any of those issues, in my household being female comes with privileges and advantages .
"It's the male that is targeted with violence, profiling and harassment.
No one can be really judged.
I wasn't raised to know the other half, the experiences and adversity of the cisgender woman.
Only just the peaches and cream, icing on the cake to femininity. What femininity looked like….. well the word itself, I'd never known existed just "being a girl".
Now , I can actually understand why Elle Woods and Gracie Hart are fictional characters and yet so groundbreaking. Seeing femininity portrayed in media like Sharpay Evans, Winx Club was just entertainment. I know much more than ever before !!.
Shanspeare did an excellent well made video on “How Hollywood demonizes ultra femininity “
In the video, Shanpeare gives film and movie examples of how femininity has been defined throughout ages. Including media portrayal of mostly female fictionalized roles, which is tolerable.
Feminity is rarely talked about in our real life world. From being at home to being in the workforce in a male dominated industry. Such as Jasmine Grimes, Miami Dolphins first full time female athletic trainer to Amanda Robinson , a young woman who does it all from making masks to renovation.
Just like in film and real life, the recognition of women receives little recognition and women in certain occupations have to be acknowledged.
According to the Women's History Organization, Women's History Month is to "celebrate contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields."
I had the chance to speak with one Air Force veteran, her name is Staff Sergeant , Mary Bell Coleman.
